A Day to Remember: Reliving the Magical World of the Harry Potter Movies!
Either you were born in the 90s or late 2000, young and old, men and women, or even live in the complete opposite of the world, you perhaps at least once came across with one of (if not) the most iconic and most talked fiction of all time - Harry Potter. You can’t argue us on that, eh? You can try, but the last words you might hear is avada kedavra! All jokes aside, we think the real magic to the series is its universal acceptability. You can’t help but cheer for Harry. It’s hard not to be touched by all the friendship. And it is most definitely impossible not to be in awe of the world that JK Rowling imagined. This blog is about an awesome trip to the studios that brought magic to life (quite literally!).
Some people might have enjoyed reading the novels rather than watching the films which was true as in most cases, the storyline in the film format often get shortened and compacted from its original version in the novels because it is almost mission impossible to include every single detail on it and end up with ten hours or more long film. We personally enjoyed both and are quite Potterhead ourselves. So when the opportunity to visit the studio where all the scenes in the movie were shot came, one must seize it.
It was 6 September 2016. We woke up earlier than usual and got pretty excited already to start the day. It was just few days after thesis submission so we thought got ourselves tickets to Harry Potter Studio was a much needed reward after weeks drown in piles of journals and textbooks.
Scrolling through the old galleries still gave us the joy and excitement that even after 6 years are still there. So, hopefully putting all the photos here could bring the memory back for those who once visited the studio and somehow give the glimpse of what ones may expect when planning to visit. Let us bid you rictusempra and hope this walk down memory lane gives you the giggles. Buckle up and enjoy!
Who got the mail!?
It starts from that dark place, right? The entire story arc is almost like a Phoenix rising from death and the ashes, and befittingly this is where we found Potter: in a place where we were conditioned to really hate but it was almost inevitable to learn that even the darkest places can be your fortress. The entire Dursley home was actually seen on set and there are corners that any Potterhead would recognize when you enter it.
That first train ride departing from Platform 9 and 3/4!
This is sort of where the magical experience started, right? Who remembers the awesomeness of seeing how they translated the iconic train platform that gets students to Hogwarts? It was always really cool to start each book, essentially attributing to the characters starting a new year at school and find out what happens. The train ride to Hogwarts always sets the tone for that specific book or movie and it was so awesome to see the set and props!
Don’t forget to take your quills to class!
The above is a pretty cool compilation of some of the sets inside Hogwarts school that you can pretty much look at from a very close distance. There is all sorts of areas and rooms you can imagine, some of the coolest sets we saw included Dumbledore’s office, Snape’s potions classroom, and OH they even had the door with all the snakes that led to the chamber of secrets. In retrospect we’re not really sure how we did not faint at every corner and managed to pretty much see most of the things in a single entry. Ideally we would do the round in like 30 entries at least! The details are simply mind blowing!
The world comes to life!
Really the amazing thing about visiting the studios is the overwhelming feeling which makes you start thinking in your head: maybe, MAYBE, this world actually exists? There is no way that these are all just pretend items right? We remembered feeling a bit empty and hollow on the ride back home to London and felt like life was simply too boring outside the magical world. Yes you can visit all the Harry Potter stuff in Universal Studios and such, or even the platform and shop in Kings Cross Station. But if you really want to immerse yourself with so many things from the Harry Potter world. This is the place to be! Now go enjoy the photos as we need to water the mandrakes so Professor Sprout doesn’t get cross at us!
